From Enrollment to Kuro-Obi



Application

  • Fill in the application form and submit it along with the entrance fee to the office in the main building of the Kodokan. A member's card will be issued to those accepted. The application form is acceptable by mail. Please enclose return postage fee to receive a membership card.

  • Members can join the training held in the Dojo under a designated trainer at the appointed time, with the understanding that they pay the monthly fee and Dojo fee.

  • Members are allowed to participate in the Red and White tournament held in June and October, and the Tsukinami-Shiai (Monthly Tournament). It is required to sign-up with application fee before each tournaments.

  • Grade is decided by the results of the Tsukinami-Shiai (Monthly Tournament) and the Red and White Tournament. The Grade-holders wear Black Belt.


Manners

  • The most important manner for a Judo player is not to give up or quit training Judo. Self-discipline, including dining and other spheres of daily life, also is required.

  • To be very courteous, to keep the Dojo clean and comfortable, to keep Judo-gi and one's body neat and clean, and paring one's nails should be done naturally if one cares for and respects opponents.

3) Tsukinami-Shiai (Monthly Tournament) & Kohakujiai (Red and White tournament)

  • When to apply?

    • Kohakujiai (Red and White tournament): 11 days in advance (Wed. 2 weeks in advance) of the tournament.

    • Tsukinami-Shiai (Monthly Tournament): 3 days in advance (Monday) of the tournament.


  • How to apply?

    • Fill out the application form and submit it to the office of the main building (Dojo Instruction Dept.) in person.

    • If you do not practice judo at Kodokan normally, but would like to apply for tournaments, fill out the application form and submit it with the tournament fee listed below.


  • Note

    • For those who are late for tournaments are not able to participate in it.
      Also, if you would be absent from a tournament without notice in advance, you will not be able to participate in the following tournament.

    • If you would like to receive the application form by mail, write to Dojo Instruction Dept. with return postage fee.

4) Up-grade examination

  • Men's upgrade examination depends on the points acquired at Kohaku and Tsukinami Shiai.

  • Women's up-grade examination is held 3 times a year.

    How to apply?

  • Fill out the application form and submit it with exam fee noted below to the office of the main building (Dojo Instruction Dept.) by 7 days in advance of the date of examination.
